With the start of the fourth quarter, the end of the school year is quickly approaching. For most, this simply marks one step closer to another summer off. For the senior class, however, this trying season marks their last few weeks of high school. As a senior, whether you face this prospect with eagerness to wrap up high school, sadness to leave it behind, or a little bit of both, chances are you are looking forward to this year’s senior week.
Senior week is the last week of high school leading up to graduation for the senior class. It offers the class a week’s worth of fun events before they don their gowns and toss their caps. For the student culture, though, senior week embodies so much more than just that. It represents an essential rite of passage and a colossal culmination of achievements for the graduating class. This class has persevered through an educational journey amounting to at least fourteen years of school. Senior week affords the class time to share in reflecting on that journey and all the academic accomplishments, personal growth, and memories it includes. When asked about why seniors should be looking forward to the week, the Class of 2024 President Drew Lane explained that “I think seniors should look forward to it as they can cherish their possible final moments with all of their peers. After graduation, everyone will be going their separate ways, and we won’t necessarily know when you will see certain people again.” While graduation might be the formal conclusion to this adventure, senior week is the true time for celebration and consideration among peers. Furthermore, with graduation being the last time many students will see each other, senior week holds a particularly important spirit of camaraderie and unity.
With the week’s significance aside, you are probably eager to learn more about the events that this year’s senior week has in store. Given that senior week will be the week of Memorial Day this year, the events will follow a four-day schedule starting on Tuesday. That Tuesday will start off with rehearsals for the baccalaureate ceremony. That may not seem like a thrilling start to the week, but you will be sure to appreciate the practice come the actual event. More excitingly, Tuesday night will end off with a senior week staple: the boat cruise in Boston Harbor. The cruise should not need any introduction because you have likely already heard seniors in years past share their enjoyable memories of participating in it.
After a great sunset on the cruise, the following Wednesday will begin with some additional rehearsal for the baccalaureate. After the rehearsals, the class is planning to have a cookout for lunch. Additionally, there are supposed plans for seeing a possible hypnotist. The finer details are unclear but it sure is an intriguing concept to speculate on. Succeeding that will be a car parade leading into baccalaureate which will be held in the PAC at seven. In case you are unfamiliar with the tradition, the baccalaureate is a ceremony in celebration of the graduating class. The service should finish by nine which will mark the conclusion of the day’s events.
Next is Thursday, which weather permitting, will be the class’s beach day. The last time the Class of 2024 had a beach day was when they were in seventh grade during 2019. Needless to say, it is shaping up to be a terrific day. The following Friday is set to be a relaxing one. On the schedule that day is yearbook signing and another cookout with a food truck. Wrapping up the week’s events will be the greatly-anticipated graduation service, formerly marking the class’s departure from high school and the beginning of their promising futures. As of now, it is not known whether the service will be held inside or outside. Regardless, it is sure to be an amazing experience that nobody will soon forget.
