People who attend Spirit Week must wear specific color clothes, and there will be times when people cannot afford to buy every clothing color. Some people who don’t wear the same clothing as others might become very frustrated.
Some people might regret wearing clothing that reflects a particular theme because the theme is outside their interest and is pointless to their own needs. When people decorate the pods, each class reduces the time they have to complete their personal tasks and schoolwork.
Some people like dressing up the same way because they are friends; however, some people do not have any friends. There are times when students dress up like their parents, which reminds some other people of the times they’ve experienced when their parents had died or have been divorced.
Although spirit week allows the school week to become a lot more entertaining, it reduces the amount of time in which one has to complete their personal schoolwork in R-block and reduces the amount of time in which one has to study for an exam.
Some themes of Spirit Week are also considered exclusionary, and students should not have the right to pursue those themes. Spirit week has waste one’s time learning in class, and it only allows students to spend their time accomplishing what they strive to achieve and not what they are assigned to accomplish.
People who attend Spirit Week might have little say in dressing up, and dressing up might not be an accomplishment of their personal needs, which causes them to be against Spirit Week competitions. More importantly, those interested in completing their schoolwork are denied the opportunity to complete the assignments they are tasked to complete. Another significant reason why the school should ban Spirit Week is the fact that when having to study for an upcoming exam, the time in which Spirit Week interrupts the amount of time in which one has to prepare for all of the upcoming exams in which they are tasked as time goes on. More interestingly, when one of the grades that participate in the Spirit Week competition wins the Spirit Week tournament, they do not receive any significant rewards for the hardworking effort they put into striving to win Spirit Week.
In return, they are not rewarded for their accomplishments throughout Spirit Week. Although spirit week allows people to better enjoy themselves during the times in which they attend school, they still are denied the opportunity to become successful throughout the time in which they have to complete the schoolwork that they are assigned to complete. Another challenging moment in some people’s experience is having to memorize their schedules because they have been changed despite the fact that we have Spirit Week.
Maxwell Jones expresses the fact that “spirit week may be fun, but it does, however, get rid of the opportunity for only to be able to complete their homework in R-block.” This quote by Max Jones expresses the fact that during the times that R-block occurs, it stands in the way of the opportunities that R-block provides for students. Additionally, Aidan Orlando expresses that; “Spirit Week is fun but at the same time, when I have a lot of assignments for other classes I usually fall behind in school, during spirit week. So R-block could still prove useful.” More specifically, Aidan Orlando expresses the fact that Spirit Week is fun for the most part but it stands in the way of classwork. This results in a disadvantage during times in which one needs to complete their classwork, each class assigned, and be able to succeed throughout our classes. Mrs. Collura states, “Spirit week competitions do stand in the way of work, but it still allows us to be able to use the only week in which we can have fun to our advantage.” More specifically, Mrs. Collura is expressing that spirit week can be fun, but at the same time, it reduces the advantages in which we have to complete all our schoolwork and classwork.
In conclusion, Spirit Week is a waste of time and when given the opportunity to choose a class in which the Spirit Week competitions should stand in the way of, they choose Spirit Week competitions to stand in the way of R-block. This causes a disadvantage in completing the schoolwork that each class assigns.
