On the first of July 2001, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Davion Blessings was born. What he didn’t know yet, is that he will grow up to become a major rapper and singer in the 21st century. Davion started to record and release music on Facebook back in 2018, where he adopted the stage name “Dave Blunts”. His early career had its ups and downs. Late in 2023, Dave was thinking about quitting his singing career. This all changed when he released several songs on Tik Tok that went viral and are still trending today. One in particular, titled “The Cup”, which would cause Mr. Blunts to soar in fame. Would it however be for the right reason?
On May 10th, 2025, Dave Blunts will perform in the Middle East, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This is one of many locations on Blunts “Standing for What I Believe in” tour. Despite the enthusiasm some concerns arose over his promise to crowd surf at at least one location on the tour. While this might sound like harmless fun it may be dangerous for his fans. Dave Blunts has gained fame not just because of his singing, but his weight. In September of 2024 Blunts expressed how he was morbidly obese and weighed about 600 pounds. On stage, he could be seen breathing from an oxygen tank. This only provided more reasons for fans to be concerned. Many people that didn’t know Blunts, such as some teachers I asked across the school, after knowing his condition and past hospitalizations, said that he was not healthy. Other fans such as Alex Wilt, who listens to all of his songs daily, expresses how Dave will “strive to be healthier, listening to his fans”. Fortunately, Blunts has done this, already on track on losing weight and putting down drugs.
Earlier this year, Kanye West (now known as Ye) pledged to help Dave Blunts by connecting him to his own personal trainer. This was all because of Blunt’s collaboration in Ye’s new single “WW3”. This collaboration, adding on with an album that Blunts help create, spread outrage after Ye’s twitter (X) comments. Now going back to the concert in Cambridge, many fans such as Alex Wilt, Theo Goodrich, Reilly Miner, and I are excited to see him in person. After listening to a song, Mrs.McShane shows interest in Blunt’s music expressing how “no, he shouldn’t quit; he has a talented voice”. As many students from Ipswich go to see Blunts live, the question of if they are seeing him because of fanatic behaviors or as a joke. Whatever your opinion is on Dave Blunts, anyone could argue that his strive towards continuing music and a healthier life brought him to greater fame.
