Here at Ipswich High School students have many choices for what they can do post high school. Some students choose to go to a four year college; some choose to devote their energy into learning a trade, and some even take some time off to find themselves. With the 2024 to 2025 school year coming to a close and the class of 2025 leaving high school, there are many different paths that the graduating seniors are taking. Whether it be going to a four year college, learning a trade, or anything else, the future is looking bright for this new generation of adults.
One senior, Shawn Bilo is not attending a typical four year college; instead he chose to learn a trade. He started working at Bilo Heating and Plumbing here in Ipswich for the bridge program. The bridge program is a program at Ipswich High School where seniors can begin working a job and learning what they may want to do in life rather than attend typical classes in the fourth quarter of school. During this program Shawn was able to get his apprentice license for plumbing and begin to learn what the job entails. He was assigned to a journeyman who also worked at the company and he would assist the journeyman on all his jobs, where he would learn and get used to plumbing. Shawn had worked previously as a kid helping his dad on small plumbing projects so he knew that college was not for him and he just wanted to learn a trade instead.
Another senior, Jenny White plans on attending college. She is attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the fall. Here she plans on studying nursing and becoming a nurse in the future. Even though Jenny is going far for college she is excited to meet new people and experience new things in a new environment. Jenny has worked hard throughout her whole high school career in order to achieve her dreams of being a nurse and helping people in need. With her being the captain of both the indoor and outdoor track teams for two years and being on the volleyball team for four years and being the president of the Interact Club here at Ipswich she set herself up to get into a good college and study nursing.
These are only two of the many different paths that students are taking here at Ipswich High School. No matter what the student plans to do in the future I am confident that all of these seniors that are graduating will do great things in the future and be a positive addition to whatever community they end up with later in life.
