Lights, camera, action! Star Wars is back with Episode VII. On December 18, 2015, the seventh space film in the Star Wars series will be released. Fans are guaranteed to love it given its extensive budget of 200 million dollars and the fact that it is being written, directed and produced by J.J. Abrams. Already viewed as an upcoming success, even Disneyland is modifying part of their park based off of the episode.

This new episode will follow the Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and will serve as part of the third trilogy of the films. Although none of the plot has been officially released, Star Wars creator, George Lucas, has given many hints as to the content of this episode.

Regarding the epic series, George Lucas has said, “It’s like a saga, the story of a group of people, a family.” He even went as far as revealing the characters who may appear, as well as the returning actors.

The characters of R2-D2 and C-3PO, are rumored to continue their role in the new episode. Colin MacEachern, Ipswich High junior and a devoted Star Wars fan, stated “I loved R2D2. He is small, has little fighting capabilities, yet he fought well and inspired us all.” Hopefully the return of these characters will make for an exceptional film that is comparable to the previous episodes.

Also, the actors of Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, will make an appearance in the new film. Many fans have high expectations for this film and yearn for similarity to the preceding episodes.

In addition to the same actors from the previous films, the cinematographer hopes to use a specific film to portray the episode as closely as possible to the previous episodes. This new episode is part of a trilogy so it is expected to have the same feel as the other movies. Colin’s input on this aspect is, “I hope with their budget they’ll live up to the originals.” For the new film to be a success among fans, the atmosphere of the episode must relate to the previous films and it must convey familiarity.

As of May 2013, the production of Episode VII is confirmed to take place in the United Kingdom. An Ipswich High parent, Kevin Whooley, comments, “I have seen the entire Star Wars franchise and cannot wait to see what they come up with for the new episode.” Anxiously awaiting production, the script for the movie is expected to be completed this month. So, if planning goes accordingly, the filming of Episode VII will begin this coming spring!

The popularity of the Star Wars movies have set the stage for Episode VII, and the success will be determined upon the release. As the new year has just begun, fans are given something to look forward to in the distant, but approaching, future.
