Often overlooked, our small town holds a lot of special characteristics. Seniors may feel like this time of the school year is a race to the end. Many are anxiously anticipating leaving Ipswich High school, but should we all slow down to appreciate what we have right now?
Senior Alex Young plans on studying business at Bryant University next year and wants to land a good job out of college. Although college offers many opportunities for students, Young says that his favorite thing about high school was all of the extracurricular activities. He says, “From a wide variety of sports and clubs to join, I feel like the high school does a great job on creating opportunities for people.”
Aside from the school, one of his favorite spots in town is the widely admired Crane Estate/Crane’s Beach. He enjoys the estate because of the beauty of the estate waterfront and long beaches during the summertime. In addition to the infamous Crane Estate, Ipswich has a lot of unique environmental factors. Young adds, “One of the most unique things about Ipswich is the geography of the town. I think that the places that make up Ipswich such as the beaches, forests, stores, and various restaurants are all very special things that make Ipswich really stand out.” Like many others, he points out that we have beautiful beaches as well as lush forests.
Overall, what Alex Young will miss most about his eighteen years in Ipswich is the people. He says,”Most people in Ipswich are very inclusive and accepting which I think is a great thing for people that are coming to Ipswich or who already live here.” According to Young, Ipswich holds true to the saying “the people make the place.”
Another senior, Allie Wile, has also spent her whole life in Ipswich. When asked what she will miss most about high school she says, “The big sports games. Everything gets super exciting. Everyone is there cheering and it gets really loud.” Like Alex, she loves when everyone gets together especially when cheering for our school. One specific event is spirit week. Wile explains,”I feel like everyone gets to just do all the fun things together during spirit week; it’s so fun.” In Allie’s future, she is playing lacrosse at Southern New Hampshire University. She hopes to find a major in the sports world, similar to the love that she has for the Ipswich sports environment. She says,” I will hopefully work to better student athletes,” she adds,”whether that is mentally or that is physically.” More specifically, she wants to focus on how the body works and the importance of taking care of an athlete’s body. Allie plans to stay close because much of the Ipswich community are her family and friends! Although she plans to play lacrosse, she notes that it won’t be the same without her team back home.
On the other hand, another Ipswich favorite is the boating lifestyle. Allie says one that makes Ipswich unique are all the places to travel by boat. A few of her most valued locations include Loudmouth Beach and Little Neck. Wile says,”it’s the perfect aesthetic. Being on the beach and being able to walk around at night and just have this little community. I think it’s really awesome.” The majority of people love to stay in this location because of how beautiful it is and that’s another reason why our town is so special.
The main aspect repeated by both Alex and Allie about Ipswich is our community. The people of Ipswich, including the high school were described as “welcoming”, “athletic”, and “fun.” The seniors may be rushing to the end now, eager for what’s ahead, but sometimes it’s good for us to look back and appreciate what we have right now. Hopefully we can carry our Ipswich reputations’ into the future. Although we may not be able to match the community we have now, everyone will discover where they are meant to be! Don’t be too upset if you’re leaving Ipswich behind; we can always come back to Ipswich in the summer.
